Interview with Kate Pierson of The B-52's!
The B-52’s are the world’s greatest party band, with amazing chart-topics hits including “Love Shack” and “Roam” plus groundbreaking songs like “Rock Lobster” and “Private Idaho”. Band member Kate Pierson has been there since the band formed in Athens, Georgia in 1976. Kate joins us today to talk about the B-52’s, who’ve been around for over 40 years and sold more than 20 million albums.
In this interview, Kate talks about the night the band formed in 1976, and how they developed their name (which came to fellow band member Kevin Strickland in a dream), their bouffant hairdos and their unique approach to making music.
Kate, who is well known for her many collaborations including Iggy Pop and The Ramones, discusses how she worked with R.E.M. on their “Out of Time” album, which led to the hit “Shiny Happy People”. She also talks about her new music coming this Fall as well as her unique resorts where vacationers can “Rock it through the Wilderness” at Kate's Lazy Desert in Landers, CA, Kate's Lazy Cabin in Lake Hill, NY and Kate's Lazy Meadow in Mount Tremper, NY.
