121. DOUG E DOUG – Actor, Writer, Director, Producer & Jamaican Bobsledder!

Doug E Doug (Douglas Bourne) has an incredible 30-year career as an actor, comedian, director, producer, and a writer. He is well-known to movie viewers for his starring role as Jamaican bobsledder “Sanka Coffie” in the movie Cool Runnings. Doug recently released his first book, called “The Fall of ’87: A Dope Novel”, a stand-alone mystery about a young black man in Brooklyn who embarks on a spiritual odyssey to solve a murder.

Doug E Doug was born in Brooklyn, New York and started off his career as a stand-up comic at the age of 17. He was seen first at the Apollo Theater by Russell Simmons, who asked Doug to write & host The New Music Report. Spike Lee also discovered Doug at the Apollo and included him in his film Mo' Better Blues, a musical comedy with Denzel Washington & Wesley Snipes.

Early in Doug's career he worked as a summer school English teacher and writing coach, so he used these skills recently to write his new (& first) book, “The Fall of '87: A Dope Novel”.

118. Apollo 13 – 50 Years Later with Astronaut Fred Haise

Interview with astronaut Fred Haise, the lunar module pilot of Apollo 13!

50 years ago the world witnessed the amazing story of Apollo 13, launched on April 11, 1970. Two days into the mission, an explosion in one of the oxygen tanks prevented the three astronauts, Commander Jim Lovell, Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert and Lunar Module Pilot Fred Haise, from landing on the Moon. The entire world awaited the safe return of the crew for four days, as the three astronauts used the Lunar Module Aquarius as a lifeboat until successfully splashing down in the South Pacific on April 17, 1970.

In this episode, astronaut Fred Haise joins us by phone to discuss his amazing career, where he also served as backup for Apollo 8, Apollo 11 and Apollo 16 (and slated to be Flight Commander for the later cancelled Apollo 19). Fred also was heavily involved in the space shuttle program and successfully landed the space shuttle Enterprise for the very first time. In this interview Fred also describes his thoughts leading up to his rookie flight on Apollo 13, his thoughts when the oxygen tank exploded, and his description of what it what like as their spacecraft made its closest approach to the Moon.

117. SunRISE – NASA’s new mission to study giant space weather storms

NASA has just selected a new mission to study how the Sun generates and releases giant space weather storms into space. The new mission is called SunRISE, which stands for Sun Radio Interferometer Space Experiment. This mission will ultimately help protect astronauts traveling to the Moon and Mars by providing better information on how the Sun’s radiation affects the space environment they must travel through.

The principal investigator of SunRISE, Dr. Justin Kasper, joins us to discuss this incredible mission. Justin is also a professor of Space Science & Engineering for the University of Michigan, where he designs sensors for spacecraft that explore extreme environments in space from the surface of the Sun to the outer edges of the solar system.

SunRISE is an array of six CubeSats operating as one very large radio telescope. NASA has awarded $62.6 million to design, build and launch SunRISE by no earlier than July 1, 2023. NASA chose SunRISE in August 2017 as one of two Mission of Opportunity proposals to conduct an 11-month mission concept study. In February 2019, the agency approved a continued formulation study of the mission for an additional year.

SunRISE is led by Justin Kasper at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. The mission design relies on six solar-powered CubeSats – each about the size of a toaster oven – to simultaneously observe radio images of low-frequency emission from solar activity and share them via NASA’s Deep Space Network. The constellation of CubeSats would fly within 6 miles of each other, above Earth's atmosphere, which otherwise blocks the radio signals SunRISE will observe. Together, the six CubeSats will create 3D maps to pinpoint where giant particle bursts originate on the Sun and how they evolve as they expand outward into space. This, in turn, will help determine what initiates and accelerates these giant jets of radiation. The six individual spacecraft will also work together to map, for the first time, the pattern of magnetic field lines reaching from the Sun out into interplanetary space.

Scott Kelly is a former military fighter pilot and test pilot, an engineer, a retired astronaut, and a retired U.S. Navy captain. A veteran of four space flights, Kelly commanded the International Space Station (ISS) on three expeditions and was a member of the yearlong mission to the ISS. In October 2015, he set the record for the total accumulated number of days spent in space. He lives in Houston, Texas.

Retired NASA astronaut Scott Kelly is a veteran of four space flights spent 520 days living in space, including 340 consecutive days, the single longest space mission by an American astronaut. However, recently NASA astronaut Christina H. Koch spend 328 days in space, just shy of Scott’s record by 12 days, but Christina did set the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman.

Since Scott's return to Earth he’s released his memoir entitled “Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery” and also “Infinite Wonder: An Astronaut’s photographs from a year in space.” In this interview Scott joins us by phone to discuss his amazing experience and his inspiration for achieving goals that are literally out of this world.

Thus he was introduced to criticism and disappointment early in his endeavor. Nevertheless, Brady heard a guitar player that would motivate him to push all that aside and re-energrize his passion to continue; that guitar player was Randy Rhoads. Brady soon fell in love with classical and melodic guitar playing. Brady practiced restlessly learning everything from classical pieces, melodic and virtuosic solos from 80's guitar heroes, to jazz fusion.

Brady loved the guitar, and truly, that has been his passion. He attended Berklee College of Music for a little time. At the age of 19, he was asked to teach summer guitar workshop at Duquesne University. As life often happens, however, Brady got burned out and went back to school and received his masters in Psychology. Yep, that's right — Psychology. But the passion is back and stronger than ever, plus it never hurts to have some money!

Brady set out to do an instrumental project that would have his listeners singing the haunting melodies while holding their attention by uniquely placed guitar virtuosity and dynamic rhythms creating a fusion of rock, flamenco, and jazz. His love for a variety of musical styles led him to study under many teachers in his life. Brady started out playing Classical guitar at the age of 10. Ever since then, Brady has had a strong affection for nylon string guitar sound. Ultimately, this led him to study Flamenco guitar. He immediately fell in love with the passion, virtuosity and rhythm of this style. The shred of the 80’s was one of his main influences and guilty pleasures, while Jazz was a big influence on Brady’s chordal choices and song color.

Brady has a wide range of experience in the music business. His experience ranges from the Pittsburgh rock scene to national tours. He has worked as a Pittsburgh session guitarist, Worship leader, and guitarist at several mega churches. He has also taught guitar at clinics and universities.

His 2019 release with MTS Management Group/MTS Records is “Passions Collide” featuring the lead single, “Redemption’s Cry.” The song, featuring a hauntingly beautiful vocal from Brady’s wife, Jennifer, chartied on the Airplay Today national radio charts. The 2nd single, the title track, reached Top 5 on the iTunes sales charts, while staying on the airplay charts for several months. Brady’s latest single and video is “Ancient Romance.” Released in December 2019, the video was filmed on location in St. Augustine, Florida. It premiered on The Christian Beat.

An amazing space journey from a childhood dream of becoming a pilot to leading NASA

In this episode, we feature my interview with NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, conducted from his office at NASA Headquarters in Washington D.C. in early November 2019. We discuss his incredible space journey, as well as the current and future missions of NASA, including plans to return humans to the Moon, then later to Mars. We also discuss the possibility of life on Mars and elsewhere in the solar system, as well as his opinion that Pluto should be recognized as the ninth planet (hence the photo of us doing the “Pluto salute” with nine fingers in his office!).

James Frederick “Jim” Bridenstine was nominated by President Donald Trump, confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and sworn in as NASA’s 13th administrator on April 23, 2018. Bridenstine was elected in 2012 to represent Oklahoma’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he served on the Armed Services Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee.

Bridenstine’s career in federal service began in the U.S. Navy, flying the E-2C Hawkeye off the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. It was there that he flew combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan and accrued most of his 1,900 flight hours and 333 carrier-arrested landings. He later moved to the F-18 Hornet and flew at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, the parent command to TOPGUN.

After transitioning from active duty to the U.S. Navy Reserve, Bridenstine returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to be the Executive Director of the Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium. Bridenstine completed a triple major at Rice University, and earned his MBA at Cornell University. He has three children with his wife, Michelle.

In this episode we feature Dr. Nathalie Cabrol, a French American astrobiologist specializing in planetary science. She has been a Principal Investigator (PI) at the SETI Institute since 1998 and is also the Director of the Carl Sagan Center for Research. She leads projects in planetary science and astrobiology, develops science exploration strategies for Mars, Titan, and the Outer Solar System icy moons, and designs robotic field experiments. Nathalie has received several NASA & other research awards. Her work is featured in the US and international media, including the Discovery Channel, NOVA, National Geographic, Scientific American, Ted talks, and much more.

For this interview I spoke with Nathalie just before her most recent research trip to the Andes, where she explores high altitude lakes where environmental conditions are analogous to early Mars. During the interview she describes her amazing work in astrobiology plus her incredible story of how she first met Carl Sagan while she was a student working on her thesis.

Her music was in the popular Hallmark movie “Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane,” Lifetime’s hit show “Dance Moms,” Freeform’s “Switched at Birth,” commercials for Fiat and ING Bank, and more. Angela joins us today to discuss her incredible music and her newest album, LOVE.

Angela was a finalist in Adweek’s advertising music contest, and won finalist placement in the Song of the Year contest for her songs “Extra Day” and “My New Favorite Song,” among other songwriting accolades. Angela has also been featured on the radio industry hub, AllAccess, and interviewed as a “rising star” in Thrive Global and Medium’s Authority Magazine.

You may have heard Angela's music on AAA, public or college radio, or in retail locations. No matter where you’ve heard her songs, though, one thing is certain: she loves to write music. Angela gives composing, writing, playing and singing her all.

Music is her passion. Angela’s first instrument was the piano, and she later took up classical voice and the acoustic guitar. Early on, she was influenced by the music her family listened to, which included everything from 1950’s R & B to the popular music of the time. Angela is an active member of local and national songwriting groups. 104. BEHIND THE SCENES: Boeing Starliner CST-100 Orbital Flight Test

In this episode we go behind the scenes of Boeing’s Starliner CST-100 Orbital Flight Test. As you may know, this was a milestone launch for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Boeing had previously conducted a successful pad abort test for Starliner in early November 2019. This orbital flight test, on December 20, 2019, was successful in that it launched and returned safely two days later; however the Starliner spacecraft, now named Calypso, was not able to dock with the International Space Station as planned. Over the next few minutes in this program we’re going to discuss our experience behind the scenes of this monumental mission as attendees of the NASA Social Program. I’ve invited my new friend Jason Fields (of “Florida is Sinking” podcast), who also attended, to discuss this incredible experience.

Part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, the uncrewed Orbital Flight Test (OFT) was the first launch of the CST-100 Starliner. The goals of the OFT mission were to demonstrate on-orbit operation of all systems; demonstrate the performance of the Guidance, Navigation and Control systems of the Atlas V and Starliner through ascent, on-orbit and reentry; verify acoustic and vibration levels as well as loads across Starliner’s exterior and interior throughout the mission; monitor launch abort triggers; demonstrated end-to-end operational performance and procedures; and demonstrate reentry and landing.

All human launch systems, going back to the Mercury Atlas, traditionally conduct uncrewed test flights prior to crewed flights. The uncrewed flight allows the team to thoroughly evaluate all flight data against pre-flight predictions and make any necessary adjustments prior to flying astronauts.

RALPH JOHNSON is an American singer, songwriter, musician and producer. Johnson is a longstanding member of the band Earth, Wind & Fire. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Earth, Wind, and Fire were awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 7080 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California.

FKM grew up without a father, was homeless as a teenager, and was incarcerated for 2 years when his son was 3 and his wife was pregnant with their daughter. FKM turned his life around at this point and has NEVER LOOKED BACK. He's now making his way as a rap artist, trying to make a difference in the lives of young people.

Mark Peller is the program manager for major development at United Launch Alliance (ULA), and in this position is responsible for development of Vulcan. Mark is with us today to discuss ULA’s future launch system, the Vulcan Centaur rocket.

Vulcan is ULA’s future launch system that builds upon ULA’s extensive Atlas and Delta heritage to provide a competitive product offering to serve a broad spectrum of markets. As the program manager, Peller has overall responsibility for developing the launch vehicle and the supporting capabilities required across the supply chain as well as ULA’s production and launch operations to meet the program’s objectives.

Peller began his career with Rockwell International in 1990 as a propulsion engineer supporting the Space Shuttle program. He joined The Boeing Company in 1996 when it acquired the aerospace and defense businesses of Rockwell. Peller moved to the Delta program in 1997 and held various technical and program management positions throughout the development and initial fielding of the Delta IV launch system.

Peller continued his work on the Delta program at ULA after the company was formed in 2006. In 2009, he was appointed the product line chief engineer for Delta, where he had overall technical responsibility for the Delta II and Delta IV launch systems. During this period he oversaw 24 successful Delta launches, including the first launch of the Delta IV Heavy configuration from the West Coast. In 2013 Peller transitioned into the role of the director of the ULA Hardware Value Stream where he was responsible for managing the Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) contracts with the U.S. Air Force, and leading the product teams supporting launch vehicle development, procurement, and production.

Peller holds a Bachelor of Science degree in applied mechanics from the University of California, San Diego, a Master of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Southern California and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California, Irvine. He is a licensed mechanical engineer in the state of California.

Alan Parsons is an English audio engineer, songwriter, musician and record producer best known for his work on The Alan Parsons Project. He began his career at the age of 19, where he worked at Abbey Road, assisting in the production of the last two Beatles albums. In 1974 he received his first (of more than a dozen) Grammy nominations for his work on Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon. Through his work on The Alan Parsons Project, which was formed in 1975, Alan has had several top 40 hits including Eye in the Sky, Games People Play and Don’t Answer Me.

Alan joins us today to talk about his incredible career, including his recent Grammy nomination, his latest album “The Secret” released April 26, 2019 (his first album in 15 years), as well as his 2019 tour. We also discuss his experience watching the Great American Total Solar Eclipse in 2017 and his free concert on July 13, 2019, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11.

About Alan

Grammy Award winner Alan Parsons was born into a family with an impressive history in entertainment. His great-grandfather was the celebrated actor/manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree. His mother was an actress, professional folk singer and harpist and his father, Denys Parsons, an accomplished pianist and flautist as well as the author of many books. The late Oliver Reed, film actor was a cousin. His uncle, David Tree was also a film and stage actor.

Alan was fortunate enough to work as assistant engineer on the last two albums by The Beatles and after he qualified as a fully-fledged recording engineer, he went on to work with Paul McCartney and The Hollies among many others. But it was his contribution as engineer on Pink Floyd’s classic The Dark Side Of The Moon that really got him world attention. That soon led to striking successes as a producer – notably with Pilot’s Magic, John Miles’ Highfly and Music and Steve Harley’s (Come Up And See Me) Make Me Smile. He also produced the hugely successful Year Of The Cat album with Al Stewart and two albums with American prog rock band Ambrosia.

In 1975 he met Eric Woolfson who not only became his manager, but joined forces with Alan as a songwriting and performing partner for what became known as The Alan Parsons Project. The APP’s debut album, Tales Of Mystery And Imagination based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe paved the way for a signing to Clive Davis’ newly launched Arista label and a string of hit albums, namely I Robot (1977), Pyramid (1978), The Turn of a Friendly Card (1980), Eye in the Sky (1982), Ammonia Avenue (1984), Vulture Culture (1985), Stereotomy (1986) and Gaudi (1987).

Alan’s longtime hobby has been performing magic, and he regularly attends the legendary Magic Castle in Hollywood where he is a magician member.

Alan lives on an organic avocado ranch in Santa Barbara, California with his wife Lisa and numerous farm animals and pets.

Kevin Sorbo is an actor, producer & director, who received international stardom when he booked the lead role in “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”. Following that success he had the lead role as “Captain Dylan Hunt” in Gene Roddenberry’s “Andromeda”—the first show created by Roddenberry after the original Star Trek series. But more recently Kevin has become known for his family-friendly Christian films such as “God’s Not Dead” , “Let There Be Light” and “Christmas Dreams”.

Kevin has joined us today to discuss his amazing career and his latest family-friendly films. During this interview we discuss how his career began with “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” and two life-changing events that occurred during this series. Kevin also talks about his recent projects which include “Bernie the Dolphin”, which was just released December 7, 2018 and is a family adventure about a brother & sister who find a badly sunburned dolphin separated from his family and uncover a secret plan that could destroy the beach and their new friend's home.

Kevin has some incredible Christian-film projects out as well, including “Christmas Dreams”, with reimagined stories of The Nutcracker and the Little Drummer Boy, as well as his 2017 movie “Let There Be Light” (2017) with its devotional book “Share the Light” (including a forward by Franklin Graham). He also mentions his recent Silent Night short movie, which was released Thanksgiving 2018 and he discusses his role as Chair & spokesperson for “A World Fit for Kids!”, a mentoring model that trains inner-city teens to use school, fitness, sports & positive role models.

Born in Cheshire, England, Angela moved with her family to Los Angeles, California and started her acting career at the age of 3 playing Paul Newman’s daughter in the movie Somebody Up There Likes Me. At the tender age of four Angela was cast to play Linda Williams for 7 years on the hit television series The Danny Thomas Show as Danny’s daughter.

Angela was then cast as Brigitta von Trapp in the legendary film The Sound of Music. Shortly after she was offered the role of Penny Robinson the iconic television show, Lost in Space. Angela has guest starred in numerous television shows, commercials and movies over her six decade career in show business.
She married in 1976, raised two children and is a Grandmother of three.

As an author Angela’s award-winning coffee table book Styling the Stars: Lost Treasures from the Twentieth Century Fox Archive offers never before seen photographs and a behind the scenes exclusive glimpse inside Hollywood’s Twentieth Century Fox Studio archives. Now available in paperback.

Continuing to pursue her passion for art and photography, Angela's art is collected around the world. Her books Mixed Emulsions – Altered Art Techniques for Photographic Imagery, In This House: A Collection of Altered Art Imagery and Collage Techniques, and In This Garden: Explorations in Mixed Media Visual Narrative, explores her original hand-painted photography and her unique altered art techniques. Angela also conceived and collaborated on The Sound of Music Family Scrapbook.

Angela's art is collected around the world and she has pioneered and produced a clothing and jewelry line, Angela Cartwright Studio, which incorporates her hand painted art.ography images on art.wear, jewelry and accessories. She travels the world with teaching her art techniques and leads a unique trip to Salzburg, Austria sharing her Sound of Music behind the scenes experiences.

Angela and her Lost In Space co-star Bill Mumy collaborated on a pictorial memoir, Lost (and Found) In Space, which offers photographs and personal tales while filming the show for 3 years.

Her latest project, On Purpose, a fantasy adventure novel Angela wrote with her co-star Bill Mumy, includes twenty-three of her illustrations to accompany the book that was released in 2018.

Casey Dreier is the Chief Advocate & Senior Space Policy Adviser at The Planetary Society, the world’s largest independent space outreach organization. In this interview we discuss season 2 of National Geographic’s Mars TV series, as well as The Planetary Society’s Lightsail 2 project and the United States Space Force.

As Chief Advocate & Senior Space Policy Adviser, Casey leads the strategic planning and implementation of The Planetary Society's policy and advocacy efforts. This includes working closely with other policy representatives in the space community, educating legislators and congressional staffers and organizing Planetary Society members to become active space advocates. He also educates the public about space policy and history through writing, his monthly Space Policy Edition podcast and unique online course offerings such as Space Advocacy 101.

In 2015, Dreier led The Planetary Society’s Humans Orbiting Mars initiative, which explored the potential for a step-wise, long-term mission to send humans to the surface of Mars. The report provided important information and analysis for NASA’s Mars planning and helped influence thinking for lunar and Mars exploration efforts.

Dreier is a trusted source for space policy analysis for journalists and has been featured as a source in many general interest publications including the New York Times, the Washington Post, The Atlantic, Scientific American, Vox and The Verge, to name a few. He is committed to demystifying the politics and policy of space for all audiences and has been an invited speaker at conferences such as The Atlantic's Washington Ideas Week and Politicon.

He is also an instructor at Western Washington University, where he teaches the occasional class on space history and policy.

Casey is one of the “Big Thinkers” for National Geographic's Mars series, along with Elon Musk, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Andy Weir, Robert Zubrin, and more. Season 2 premiered on November 12, 2018 and shows what life in a Mars colony will be like after human settlement.

Most recently Dr. Fox is heavily involved with the Parker Solar Probe, which launched on August 12, 2018. In this episode she describes the goals of the probe, as well as her advice to parents for encouraging their children to pursue a career in the science field. I was fortunate to first meet Dr. Fisher recently at Cape Canaveral to witness the launch of ECOSTRESS aboard the SpaceX CRS-15 resupply mission to the International Space Station. The ECOsystem Spaceborne Thermal Radiometer Experiment on Space Station (ECOSTRESS) will measure the temperature of plants and use that information to better understand how much water plants need and how they respond to stress.

Dr. Eugene Parker is the solar astrophysicist who developed the theory of the supersonic solar wind and predicted the Parker spiral shape of the solar magnetic field in the mid-1950s. In this episode Dr. Parker joins us by phone to discuss his incredible theories about the Sun and NASA's Solar Parker Probe mission. Dr. Parker was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1967 and has received numerous honors throughout his career. Most recently he was awarded the Medal for Exceptional Achievement in Research by the American Physical Society for his fundamental contributions to space physics, plasma physics, solar physics and astrophysics for more than 60 years. NASA recently renamed the Parker Solar Probe after him, the first time in history that a spacecraft was named after a living person.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bret recently at Kennedy Space Center for the launch of the SpaceX CRS-15 resupply mission to the International Space Station. On board the spacecraft was CIMON, an orb-shaped device with a digital face that was jointly developed by IBM, Airbus and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). CIMON uses the power of IBM’s Watson to provide Artificial Intelligence aboard the space station. In today's episode Bret also discusses how Watson helps CIMON provide AI for the astronauts and what the future of AI looks like.

Dr. Rice is the co-investigator and geology team leader on the Mars Exploration Rover Project, which includes Spirit and Opportunity. Dr. Zubrin is also President of Pioneer Astronautics, an aerospace R&D company located in Lakewood, Colorado. Formerly a Staff Engineer at Lockheed Martin Astronautics in Denver, he holds a Masters degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Washington.

Dr. Zubrin is the inventor of several unique concepts for space propulsion and exploration. He's known internationally as one of the most creative engineers working in the aerospace industry today. He helped design the “Mars Direct” mission architecture, and was a co-inventor of the magnetic sail, as well as a nuclear rocket engine that can use CO2 as propellant, allowing a vehicle so powered to have virtually unlimited mobility on Mars.

Michael Benson works at the intersection of art and science. A writer, artist, and filmmaker, his new book, Space Odyssey: Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke, and the Making of a Masterpiece examines the four year long production of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and was published on the 50th anniversary of that film’s release. During the last decade Benson has staged a series of increasingly large-scale shows of planetary landscape photography internationally. He takes raw data from planetary science archives and processes it, creating large-format landscapes. He edits, composites, mosaics, and then finally optimizes these images, producing seamless photographs of landscapes currently beyond direct human experience. His show Otherworlds: Visions of our Solar System, featuring an original new hour-long ambient composition by Brian Eno titled Deep Space, opened in the Jerwood Gallery of the Natural History Museum in London on January 22nd, 2016. It has since been exhibited at Vienna’s Natural History Museum, the Queensland Museum in Brisbane, Australia, and in Barcelona, Spain, at the CosmoCaixa museum. Otherworlds contains 77 large format digital C prints. Benson’s previous book, Cosmigraphics: Picturing Space Through Time, came out in October 2014 and was a finalist for a Los Angeles Times Book Award.

Dr. Story Musgrave is an American physician and a retired NASA astronaut. He has seven graduate degrees in math, computers, chemistry, medicine, physiology, literature, and psychology. Story was a part-time trauma surgeon during his 30-year astronaut career. He flew on six space flights, performing the first shuttle space walk on Challenger's first flight, was a pilot on an astronomy mission, conducted two classified Department of Defense missions, was the lead space walker on the Hubble telescope repair, and on his last flight, he operated an electronic chip manufacturing satellite on Columbia.

Story was the only astronaut to fly on all five space shuttles: Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, Endeavour and Columbia.

Personally I’ve been extremely happy with the convenience and thrills Apple products have given me over the last decade. While I’m not happy with the #SlowPhoneGate and how that was handled, I am excited to be a part of this revolution, for both my business and my family. And coming from the Microsoft life, I can say that the innovation of Apple has inspired me to be a better programmer by making my applications as intuitive and user-friendly as they can be.

In this episode we discuss the three best practices for keeping you, your employees, and your critical data safe from hackers.

Cybersecurity is the process of keeping your digital files and assets safe from theft or attack. A Cybersecurity Policy is basically a formal set of rules for staff to follow to help prevent theft of information assets.

Passwords must be changed on a regular basis and must be strong/complex. Making them memorable is a big help, but never share them or write them down. Instead use a password manager, such as LastPass or Dashlane.

Backup your data automatically on a continuous basis. Online services such as Crashplan, Carbonite, BackBlaze and MozyPro are available which encrypt your files for safety. But be sure to verify your backup system works!
